Social Bartering with Favabank...

Favabank Community Bartering Favabank is modernising the age old idea of barter, exchanging items and time as favours between members of your community. Connect with people in your neighbourhood via the exchange of favours.

Bartering Favours Next time you need a helping hand or need to borrow something, why not try to source it from your local community?

Barter and Recycle Your Unwanted Stuff All barter exchanges are tracked using a virtual currency called a 'Fava', to create a 'gift economy' where the more you have given, the more likely that people will want to reciprocate. The Fava is the foundation for 'pay it forward' economics.

Charity Donation in Return for Testing Help:

Posted by John Durrant on Saturday 30th April 2011, 10:56PM

I'm shortly planning to ask people to help with our testing of Favabank. I realise it's a bit of a cheek to hassle friends etc. for this so in return, and to say thanks, I thought I'd offer £100 to charity if I can persuade 100 people to sign up and upload profile pictures (and if you could help by placing some test ads as well as interact with the ads by making fake offers or posting questions, that would be really appreciated too).

The idea of testing is firstly to ensure that we eradicate any bugs & typing errors prior to launch, as well as ensuring that people find the system straightforward and easy to use. We realise that Favabank is a concept that people may not have come across before so have tried to make everything as simple as possible, while realising that it isn't perfect and that improvements can be made.

We'd welcome any suggestions and feedback (post here or send to ). While it won't be possible to incorporate every suggestion, we will acknowledge your input and use it to make the system as good as possible prior to official launch.

I haven't made up my mind which charity to donate to, assuming we get the 100 sign-ups with photos, any charity suggestions here would be welcome and I'll make the donation through http://www.justgiving.com once I've decided.

Thanks loads....

I've decided to do 5 lots of £20 donations, starting with http://www.justgiving.com/John-Risk-Memorial-Game in aid of Barnardos.

John Risk was an early supporter of Favabank and sadly passed away last year. I'm sure any further donations to the Just Giving page will be greatly appreciated.

The second of my £20 donations has just gone to MidasPlus, a charity local to my home in Egham which does lots of fundraising and support for good causes in the area.

MidasPlus supports deserving local causes in North Surrey and South Middlesex in an area which covers Staines, Camberley, Chertsey, Addlestone, Walton & Twickenham.

Great idea John. I'd love the donation to go to Langdon Foundation - I'm riding my bike to Brussels for them, along with 25 others. Here's the link:

Testing has taken a little longer than originally planned and we had around 90 alpha test sign-ups in the end so not quite quite the 100 hoped for - however I'll still be offering up the £100 charity donation prior to our official launch. I'll probably split it between two or three causes so if there are any other suggestions please add details here...

Cancer research please, as cancer affects everyone, sadly.

OK Jaki, thanks for posting... I'll be sorting this out in the next week or so - I'll post here once I've done so...

We now have around 100 sign-ups so it is time for me to cough up my £100 charity contribution. I'll split it between 3 or 4 worthy causes (justgiving.com only to make it easy for me).

I'll shortly be sending out the first Favabank newsletter so I'll be asking people to list their suggested charity causes here...
