Social Bartering with Favabank...

Favabank Community Bartering Favabank is modernising the age old idea of barter, exchanging items and time as favours between members of your community. Connect with people in your neighbourhood via the exchange of favours.

Bartering Favours Next time you need a helping hand or need to borrow something, why not try to source it from your local community?

Barter and Recycle Your Unwanted Stuff All barter exchanges are tracked using a virtual currency called a 'Fava', to create a 'gift economy' where the more you have given, the more likely that people will want to reciprocate. The Fava is the foundation for 'pay it forward' economics.

URGENT! Favour Requests, Favabank as a Neighbourhood Emergency Service...

Posted by John Durrant on Friday 2nd March 2012, 10:40AM

One of the uses I see for Favabank is in making it easier to ask your neighbours for a favour. There could be times however when you need a favour really urgently. Perhaps you've locked yourself out of the house and need somewhere warm to wait until your partner arrives home, or you're at work and have forgotten to put the bins out for collection, or maybe you're involved in a real emergency and need to rush off to the hospital and need a neighbour to look after the children while you're away.

A future feature on Favabank could allow you to send an urgent 'shout' out to your neighbours, or your friends, or co-members of a Favabank group you belong to. People who have opted in to the service could receive a text message notification of your predicament and offer their help in return for the Favas you have suggested. This would need to be a 'paid for' service to cover the cost of sending the messages but costs could be kept down by perhaps sending out texts to the closest 5 people first, and then an additional few people until you get a response and the urgent help you need.

A feature like this wouldn't be viable until we reach a certain depth of membership in you area so if you like the idea of this kind of neighbourhood collaborative support then perhaps it's time to start mentioning Favabank to your neighbours to get them involved.
