Social Bartering with Favabank...

Favabank Community Bartering Favabank is modernising the age old idea of barter, exchanging items and time as favours between members of your community. Connect with people in your neighbourhood via the exchange of favours.

Bartering Favours Next time you need a helping hand or need to borrow something, why not try to source it from your local community?

Barter and Recycle Your Unwanted Stuff All barter exchanges are tracked using a virtual currency called a 'Fava', to create a 'gift economy' where the more you have given, the more likely that people will want to reciprocate. The Fava is the foundation for 'pay it forward' economics.

Easyjet Founder, Stelios, Launching 'Collaborative Consumption' Car Club.

Posted by John Durrant on Wednesday 14th December 2011, 7:38PM

The term 'Collaborative Consumption' popularised by author Rachel Botsman (see http://collaborativeconsumption.com) describes the use of technology to provide peer-to-peer sharing solutions on unprecedented scales. Favabank, with it's peer-to-peer sharing philosophy would fall under the Collaborative Consumption banner.

It seems that Stelios is inspired by the concept as he has teamed up with Brent Hoberman (co-founder of Lastminute.com) to offer a neighbour-to-neighbour car sharing scheme with EasyCar - see http://www.easycar.com/news/stelios-launches-rental-car-club. The Car Club will allow car owners to share access to their cars to other members using the technology and systems provided by EasyCar.

There are already neighbour-to-neighbour car sharing platforms in the UK (e.g. http://www.whipcar.com), and Stelios' entrance into the market may hopefully give a boost to the culture of neighbour-to-neighbour sharing in general.
