Social Bartering with Favabank...

Favabank Community Bartering Favabank is modernising the age old idea of barter, exchanging items and time as favours between members of your community. Connect with people in your neighbourhood via the exchange of favours.

Bartering Favours Next time you need a helping hand or need to borrow something, why not try to source it from your local community?

Barter and Recycle Your Unwanted Stuff All barter exchanges are tracked using a virtual currency called a 'Fava', to create a 'gift economy' where the more you have given, the more likely that people will want to reciprocate. The Fava is the foundation for 'pay it forward' economics.

Favabank Local Managers

With Favabank we face the very difficult task of introducing a new platform based on a concept which many would consider new and radical. We are also attempting to create a cultural change in how we relate to our neighbours, sharing more of our stuff and time with strangers.

We can't do this without the assistance of regional champions to act as advocates of Favabank, helping to build local awareness of what we are doing and welcoming newcommers when they first sign up.

Our Local Manager Programme:

We will therefore be announcing a 'Local Manager' programme. The idea will be to have one manager (or more if needed) per postcode area. A manager could be anyone with the right skills and enthusiasm. It might appeal to a local business owner, who would benefit from being better known in their area, or it could be someone who is already heavily involved with their community.

How would Local Managers be selected?

In our early days, Local Managers are likely to be appointed by the founding members of the cooperative. In due course, it is envisioned that a local manager will be accepted upon the vote of the cooperative membership, with the ability to vote in new members once a year, if the local page members decide to do so.

How else would the Local Manager benefit?

We will be able to make some formal announcements once the programme is set up. Our aim is to allow local businesses to promote their services via the local pages as well as being able to sponsor a local page. Revenues may also be derived from premium user memberships or ad-hoc payments for advanced features. It is envisaged that the local manager will receive a proportionate share of the revenue generated via the page they manage within our cooperative structure.

Not a 'Get Rich Quick' Scheme:

It is important to stress that the Local Manager role won't a 'get rich quick' thing. As a cooperative we will outline the way in which information will be shared amongst cooperative members, including things like revenue information and any revenue shares with local managers. It is likely that in the early days the local pages will not be revenue generating at all so we really are seeking people who are more motivated by community building.

OK, I'm interested - how do I apply?

Until we have a formal application process we suggest you send us an email via Contact Us. We will be appointing managers for a few pages where we already have a few signed up members or where we are keen to develop early activity.
